Yay! I'm listening to SPOS for the first time in a month. It is shameful how happy this makes me.
Anyways, I want to talk about less than three.
Whenever I get a text, or an LJ comment that contains the phrase "<3", it always brightens my day. I have no idea why, but it means a lot to me.
I guess because it gives people a way to say "I care about you", without sounding wierd or mushy. Semi-recently I was writing a birthday card for a close friend. I wanted to express how much I valued thier friendship, and that I cared about them, but I had no idea how.
I ended up just writing the typical mundane bullshit, but at the end I scribbled "<<3". I figured it successfully expressed that I cared about this person, but didn't come off strange. And from the reaction, that ended up being true.
Maybe I think it's great that the computer has givin us a way to express ideas that there are no words for. Just one more reason Alex loves technology.
Heh heh, A journalist was dissing the blog. Mitch Joel is pissed. :D

The Anti-Subject Line
Yesterday I bought a ridiculously cheap jacket. It was about eleven dollars with taxes. Pretty good right?
Well, I felt pretty guilty about it afterwards since the only way it could have been so cheap was if it was made by poor little starving children in some backwater country.
But then I thought about all the clothes I buy, and how many of them are actually made from child labour. Probably a lot. So why do I feel less guilty when I spend fifty dollars, than when I spend ten?
I'm not to sure. I guess because the pain of a lighter wallet makes me feel like I've sacrificed enough not to feel the guilt. Obviously that's a pretty dumb way of looking at it, but that doesn't make it less true.
Anyways, I think I had to much Sangria last night when I started thinking about all of this. But you get the idea.
On to something else entirely. When I started this blog about a month ago, I did it because I thought I had something to say worth reading. Something to say worth discussing. And I wanted to write it all down in medium that it could do just that. Be read.
Unfortunately, the posts here are simply not being read. How do I know that? Well my google analytics tells me so. Wonderful thing, that google. I never expected instantaneous readers. But I kinda hoped that maybe my friends or family would contribute a little bit. Apparently I'm so boring that not even they are interested.
This isn't the end for Some Fantastic, but I think that I just won't post nearly as often. Or at least put double or triple the effort into each post. Make every entry loads better, half the time? Yeah, maybe that'll work.
Lack of motivation has always been my downfall.

/:
I just got through typing about half of todays post, when I decided to backspace the whole entry.
Why? I guess I just don't feel much like talking about anything today. I feel more like listening.
So, How are you feeling today?

It's All About Facebook
Today I noticed that whenever I am in an internet cafe, generally about half the people on the computers will be on facebook. Half, sometimes more. That's just a fact of life. However, the last few days I've been updating from the library, it's rare to see someone browsing through facebook. Just goes to show that when people have to prioritize thier internet time, facebook gets the boot. What does that mean? Well, I think it means that it's not nearly as important to the general populace as some would leave you to believe. Anyways, that was just an observation.
I guess that now that I'm on the topic of facebook, might as well talk about it a bit more.
Whenever I meet an avid facebooker, I like to take the time to ask them what they like about it. Simply because I have such a hard time understand how you could spend hours at a time on it. I like facebook, but I could never be obssessed.
Generally when I ask people why they like facebook, I'll get an answer like: "You can just like talk to people and stuff" or "it's just a good way to waste time" or formally "scrabulous!". Not very convincing arguments.
So when I asked someone recently why they like facebook, and they said something along the lines of they liked how it was constantly being updated, so there was always new content to look at. I thought that was pretty interesting, because that's exactly the reason why I love my livejournal so much. Because my "friends" are continually posting in thier own journals, and in the communities. Maybe it's not all deep thinking, but I love how there are always ideas being expressed, in one form or another.
But are those really comparable? LJ is very content based. Facebook, not the same story. I can post three pages on LJ about how angry I am at my bestfriends, but I can't really convey the same feelings onto facebook.
Facebook is a great way to connect to people, and see what's going on with them, but I feel that it is a very shallow authenitcity. You see really only see the surface. That's not what I want out of my online presence. I want to contribute ideas, not just be a name and a face. What I mean to say is that I just don't feel like there is little sense in facebook connections that are meaningless.
Ok so this was a pretty poorly done post. Didn't put very much thought or effort into it. But hey, who's reading it anyways?
Really hope to get into some stuff soon that is less internet based, but we'll see how that goes.

Printing and Publish
Yupp I know I said I wouldn't be back for awhile, but honestly? I really have nothing better to do with my time than to trek all the way to the library just so I can update this blog. Yupp, can't get rid of me that easily. ;)
Yargh, I have about two pages worth of topics waiting to be written. It was difficult choosing which to write today. And since I only have 33 minutes to finish this, I better get bloody on with it eh?
I was thinking about newspapers and encyclopeadias versus other types of non-print information. More specifially, why are print sources more trustworthy than the same information on the internet, or on television?
Seriously, if you read a headline in the newspaper, your probably more likely to believe it than if you read it online. Why's that? Because newspapers go through a tedious editing process to make certain that it's correct? Are you sure about that?
I'm not trying to make the case that you should trust wikipedia over the encyclopedia brittannica, but I will say this. Each brittanica article is reviewed by a small group of experts in that topic. Each Wikipedia article is reviewed and revised by millions of people.
Does that not say something about where the most up to date and relevant information is? Maybe, maybe not. But it sure says something.
Do you tend to trust the printed word more than a digital one? Why?

This Is A Public Service Announcement.
Some Fantastic is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please stand by as the author seeks out and destroys every copy of Windows Vista in existence with her laser vision, and purchases a Mac. Thank You.
In all seriousness, thanks to the people that have taken the time to read what I have to say so far. Means a lot. I'm hoping to get the backlog of blog ideas that I have swimming around within the next two weeks, but probably no updates until then.
I know, I know, try not to be too disappointed.
